Level 1 Instruction

Throughout level 1 of a language course, learners will gain knowledge of language structures and vocabulary to communicate in written and oral scenarios. Throughout this course, you will develop basic language patterns and vocabulary through repetition and comprehensible input. Those taking this course will develop reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in the target language and will increase proficiency. This course will engage the learner in discovering the intricacies of a world language along with acquiring a flavor of its culture. At the end of the course, learners will be able to apply their language skills to engage in meaningful conversations with others. Primary emphasis will be on the present tenses, with using various future language structures, along with speaking about ones self, as one interacts with others, in verbal and written structures.

Level 1 will encompass the following concepts:

Introductions/greeting
Learning/speaking about various subjects
Learning/speaking about the alphabet and the sounds
Learning accentuation and pronunciation
Learning/speaking about the days of the week, months of the year, seasons of the year
Learning how to ask and respond to various questions
Learning and applying various verb structures in the present tense
Learning how to speak in the positive and negative
Learning to speak about "oneself"
Learning/speaking about numbers and how to tell time
Learning/speaking about one's family
Learning how to speak about possession
Learning how to use and apply descriptive adjectives, about oneself and others

*Instructor will assess instruction and gauge complexity as it relates to learners and remediate as needed.

Level 2 Instruction

Throughout level 2 of a language course, learners will increase their knowledge of language structures and vocabulary in order to communicate more proficiently in real- life situations. Learners will improve their reading, writing and speaking skills through cognitively complex tasks in order to cultivate a sense of global awareness. By the end of the course, learners will engage in meaningful conversations by using and applying more complex structures and tenses. Primary emphasis will be on transitioning from present tenses, towards past, future, and conditional tenses, using interpersonal interactions.

Level 2 will encompass the following concepts:

Brief review of Language Level 1
Using a passport to travel, and the information about a passport
Speaking about weather, as it relates to various countries
Speaking about what you like, and like to do, and the negative of same
Speaking about what a person is able to do, wants to do, has to do, and prefers to do, in various situations
Speaking about favorite pastimes
Speaking about what a person is doing at that moment
Speaking about future plans using the fake future, and the real future tenses
Speaking about where something or someone is located using prepositions, and specific verbs
Speaking about what someone "knows (facts), and knows (to be acquainted with)" using two specific verbs to convey those ideas
Speaking about something that you have just "done/completed"
Learning and applying the Preterite/past tense and various time elements that are appropriate to use
Learning and applying the Imperfect/past tense and various time elements that are appropriate to use
Speaking about what "you used to do" when you were younger, as well as various family members
